Environment variables and databases

Open Environment in the workspace header.

• Variables are encrypted at rest and never sent to AI models — the AI only sees their names. Mark a variable secret to hide its value in the interface.
• Each variable applies to Development (preview), Preview and/or Production. You can paste a whole .env file to import several at once.
• Database creates a PostgreSQL database for the app (separate ones for development and production) and sets DATABASE_URL for you.
• Built-in AI lets your app call AI models without its own provider key: it sets MOBO_LLM_BASE_URL and MOBO_LLM_KEY for an OpenAI-compatible endpoint. Usage is billed to your credits. See Built-in AI for your apps.

When the AI needs a key it doesn't have (for example a Stripe key), it tells you which variable to set at the end of the build.
